F33905Encoder 3: Encoder parameterization error

What it means

F33905 is the Encoder 3 parameterization error: the drive has found an incorrect parameter in the parameterization of encoder 3. In most cases the parameterized encoder type does not match the encoder actually connected. The drive tells you which parameter is involved: the fault value in r0949 contains the parameter number and supplementary information, and p0187 contains the parameter index. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be output as an alarm or with no reaction at all.

Why it appears

  • A parameter of the encoder 3 parameterization is incorrect.
  • It is possible that the parameterized encoder type does not match the connected encoder.

What to check

  1. Check whether the connected encoder type matches the encoder that has been parameterized.
  2. Determine the parameter involved from the fault value (r0949) and p0187, and correct that parameter.
  3. If the parameter number is 314: check the pole pair number and the measuring gear ratio — the quotient of the pole pair number divided by the measuring gear ratio must be less than or equal to 1000, i.e. (r0313 * p0433) / p0432 <= 1000.

Reading the message value

  • Format: interpret the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number of the form yyyyxxxx — xxxx is the parameter number, yyyy is the supplementary information.
  • xxxx = 421: for an EnDat/SSI encoder, the absolute position in the protocol must be less than or equal to 30 bits.
  • yyyy = 0: no additional information available.
  • yyyy = 1: the component does not support HTL level (p0405.1 = 0) combined with track monitoring A/B <> -A/B (p0405.2 = 1).
  • yyyy = 2: a code number for an identified encoder has been entered into p0400, but no identification was carried out — start a new encoder identification.
  • yyyy = 3: a code number for an identified encoder has been entered into p0400, but no identification was carried out — select a listed encoder in p0400 with a code number < 10000.
  • yyyy = 4: this component does not support SSI encoders (p0404.9 = 1) without track A/B.
  • yyyy = 5: for an SQW encoder, the value in p4686 is greater than the value in p0425.
  • yyyy = 6: a DRIVE-CLiQ encoder cannot be used with this firmware version.
  • yyyy = 7: for an SQW encoder, the XIST1 correction (p0437.2) is only permitted for equidistant zero marks.
  • yyyy = 8: the motor pole pair width is not supported by the linear scale being used.
  • yyyy = 9: the length of the position in the EnDat protocol may be a maximum of 32 bits.
  • yyyy = 10: the connected encoder is not supported.
  • yyyy = 11: the hardware does not support track monitoring.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — fault value: read the parameter number (xxxx) and the supplementary information (yyyy) of the incorrect encoder parameter here.
  • p0187 — encoder data set number: supplies the parameter index that belongs to the parameter number in r0949.
  • p0400 — encoder type selection: with yyyy = 2 or 3, a code number for an identified encoder was entered here without identification — start a new encoder identification or select a listed encoder with a code number < 10000.
  • p0404 — encoder configuration effective: with yyyy = 4, bit .9 = 1 means the component does not support SSI encoders without track A/B.
  • p0405 — square-wave encoder track A/B: with yyyy = 1, HTL level (bit .1 = 0) combined with track monitoring A/B <> -A/B (bit .2 = 1) is not supported.
  • p0425 — encoder rotary zero mark distance: with yyyy = 5 (SQW encoder), the value in p4686 must not be greater than the value here.
  • p4686 — zero mark minimum length: with yyyy = 5, compare this value against p0425.
  • p0437 — Sensor Module configuration extended: with yyyy = 7, the XIST1 correction (bit .2) is only permitted for SQW encoders with equidistant zero marks.
  • r0313 — motor pole pair number: enters the gear quotient that is checked when the parameter number is 314.
  • p0432 — gearbox factor encoder revolutions: denominator of the gear quotient that must give a result less than or equal to 1000 for parameter number 314.
  • p0433 — gearbox factor motor/load revolutions: numerator of the gear quotient checked for parameter number 314.

Acknowledging and restarting

Once the parameter identified via r0949 and p0187 has been corrected, the fault is acknowledged immediately. When the drive outputs this condition as an alarm or with no reaction, no acknowledgement is required.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F33905 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

It is the Encoder 3 parameterization error: a parameter of the encoder 3 parameterization is incorrect, often because the parameterized encoder type does not match the connected encoder.

How do I find the parameter that triggered F33905?

Interpret the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number yyyyxxxx: the lower four digits give the parameter number, the upper four the supplementary information, and p0187 gives the parameter index. Then correct the parameter found.

What does supplementary information 10 mean for F33905?

That the connected encoder is not supported. Check that the connected encoder type matches the encoder that has been parameterized.

How is F33905 cleared?

Correct the parameter named by r0949 and p0187 — the fault is then acknowledged immediately. In the alarm or no-reaction variant no acknowledgement is needed.
