F32916Encoder 2: Encoder parameterization error

What it means

F32916 is raised when the drive detects that a parameter of encoder 2 is incorrect. The message concerns the Sensor Module Encoder 2. Typically the encoder type that is parameterized does not match the encoder actually connected. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be output as an alarm (A) or without any reaction (N) instead of a fault.

Why it appears

  • An encoder 2 parameter has been detected as being incorrect.
  • It is possible that the parameterized encoder type does not match the connected encoder.

What to check

  1. Determine the affected parameter: read the fault value r0949 and interpret it as decimal — it contains the parameter number — and determine the parameter index using p0187.
  2. Check whether the connected encoder type matches the encoder type that has been parameterized.
  3. Correct the parameter specified by the fault value (r0949) and p0187.

Reading the message value

  • Fault value (r0949, interpret decimal): the number of the incorrect encoder 2 parameter.
  • Message value: Parameter: %1, supplementary information: %2

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — read the fault value interpreted as decimal to obtain the number of the incorrect encoder 2 parameter.
  • p0187 — supplies the parameter index belonging to the incorrect parameter found via r0949.

Acknowledging and restarting

The drive executes the configured stop reaction (OFF1, or one of the alternatives IASC/DCBRK, OFF2, OFF3, STOP2, NONE selected by the configuration) and the fault must be acknowledged immediately (IMMEDIATELY). After the incorrect parameter has been corrected and the connected encoder type has been verified, acknowledge the fault and restart the drive. When the condition is configured as an alarm or without reaction (A/N), reaction and acknowledgement are NONE, so no separate acknowledgement is required.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F32916 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

The drive has detected an incorrect parameter for encoder 2, most likely because the parameterized encoder type does not match the encoder that is actually connected.

How do I find out which parameter triggered F32916?

Read the fault value in r0949 and interpret it as decimal — it is the number of the incorrect parameter. The associated parameter index is determined via p0187.

How do I clear and restart after F32916?

Check that the connected encoder type matches the parameterized encoder, correct the parameter identified by r0949 and p0187, then acknowledge the fault immediately and restart the drive.

Can F32916 also appear as an alarm?

Yes, the drive configuration decides: the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or without any reaction (N), and in both cases reaction and acknowledgement are NONE.
