F31503Encoder 1: Position tracking cannot be reset

What it means

F31503 means that the drive cannot reset the position tracking for the measuring gear of encoder 1. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm or with no reaction at all, in which case the drive does not trip and no acknowledgment is required.

Why it appears

  • The position tracking for the measuring gear belonging to encoder 1 cannot be reset by the drive.

What to check

  1. Select encoder commissioning by setting p0010 = 4.
  2. Reset the position tracking by setting p0411.2 = 1.
  3. Deselect encoder commissioning by setting p0010 = 0.
  4. Acknowledge the fault and then adjust the absolute encoder.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0010 — drive commissioning parameter filter; set it to 4 to select encoder commissioning for this reset and back to 0 to leave it again.
  • p0411 — measuring gear configuration; setting p0411.2 = 1 performs the reset of the position tracking.

Acknowledging and restarting

Once p0010 has been set back to 0, acknowledge the fault; the manual then requires the absolute encoder to be adjusted as the final step. When the condition is configured as an alarm or with no reaction, neither a trip nor an acknowledgment occurs.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F31503 mean on a SINAMICS G130, G150, S120 or S150?

It means the drive cannot reset the position tracking for the measuring gear of encoder 1. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be signaled as an alarm or with no reaction.

How do I clear F31503?

Set p0010 = 4 to select encoder commissioning, set p0411.2 = 1 to reset the position tracking, and set p0010 = 0 to deselect encoder commissioning. Then acknowledge the fault and adjust the absolute encoder.

Which parameters are involved in F31503?

p0010, the drive commissioning parameter filter, selects and deselects encoder commissioning, and p0411, the measuring gear configuration, performs the reset via p0411.2.

Does F31503 need an acknowledgment before the drive restarts?

Yes, when it is issued as a fault it must be acknowledged after the commissioning steps above. If the configuration signals it as an alarm or with no reaction, no acknowledgment is required.
