F30055Power unit: Braking chopper overcurrent

What it means

F30055 is raised when the drive detects an overcurrent condition in the braking chopper of the power unit. The drive coasts down, and the fault must be acknowledged immediately before the drive can run again.

Why it appears

  • The power unit has detected an overcurrent condition in its braking chopper.

What to check

  1. Check whether the braking resistor has a short circuit.
  2. If the braking resistor is an external one, check whether it may have been dimensioned too small.

Acknowledging and restarting

Acknowledge the fault immediately. The braking chopper is only enabled again at pulse enable once the fault has been acknowledged, so after a restart it stays inactive until pulses are enabled again.

What differs between the drive families

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F30055 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

It means the power unit has detected an overcurrent condition in the braking chopper. The drive coasts down and the fault has to be acknowledged immediately.

How do I clear fault F30055?

Check whether the braking resistor has a short circuit and, for an external braking resistor, whether it may have been dimensioned too small. Then acknowledge the fault immediately.

Why is the braking chopper still inactive after acknowledging F30055?

The braking chopper is only enabled again at pulse enable after the fault has been acknowledged. It therefore remains inactive until pulses are enabled once more.
