F30040Power unit: Undervolt 24 V

What it means

F30040 is raised by the power unit when the voltage of its 24 V power supply stays below the applicable undervoltage threshold for longer than 3 ms. On the SERVO drive objects the manuals print the fault as Power unit: Undervolt 24/48 V, because there the 48 V power supply of the power unit is monitored as well. The threshold depends on the hardware: for booksize power units it is 15 V, for CU310-2, CUA31 and CUA32 it is 16 V, and for all other power units (for example S120M) it depends on the power unit and is not displayed.

Why it appears

  • The voltage of the 24 V power supply feeding the power unit remained below its undervoltage threshold for longer than 3 ms.
  • On SERVO drive objects the same fault also covers the 48 V power supply of the power unit.

What to check

  1. Check the power supply of the power unit.
  2. Carry out a POWER ON (switch-off/switch-on) for the component.

Reading the message value

  • The fault value is stored in r0949.
  • SERVO drive objects (Undervolt 24/48 V): interpret r0949 as hexadecimal yyxxxx — yy is the channel (0 = 24 V power supply, 1 = 48 V power supply) and xxxx is the voltage in 0.1 V. The diagnostics show the channel and the voltage in 0.1 V.
  • VECTOR and INF drive objects (Undervolt 24 V): interpret r0949 as decimal; it contains the 24 V voltage in 0.1 V.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 (fault value) — read the stored fault value here: as a hexadecimal channel/voltage value on SERVO drive objects, as a decimal voltage value in 0.1 V on VECTOR and INF drive objects.

Acknowledging and restarting

Acknowledge the fault immediately by carrying out a POWER ON for the component — switch its power supply off and switch it on again. Do this after you have checked the power supply of the power unit, so the condition that raised the fault is actually removed before the drive is restarted.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F30040 mean on a SINAMICS S120, G130 or G150?

The 24 V power supply of the power unit stayed below its undervoltage threshold for longer than 3 ms. On SERVO drive objects the fault also covers the 48 V power supply of the power unit.

Which undervoltage threshold triggers F30040?

15 V for booksize power units and 16 V for CU310-2, CUA31 and CUA32. For all other power units, for example S120M, the threshold depends on the power unit and is not displayed.

How is fault F30040 reset?

Check the power supply of the power unit and then carry out a POWER ON, i.e. switch the component off and on again. The fault is acknowledged immediately by this POWER ON.

What does r0949 contain for F30040?

On SERVO drive objects a hexadecimal value whose upper byte yy gives the channel (0 = 24 V, 1 = 48 V) and whose lower part xxxx gives the voltage in 0.1 V. On VECTOR and INF drive objects it holds the 24 V voltage in 0.1 V as a decimal value.
