F01664SI P1 (CU): No automatic firmware update

What it means

F01664 (SI P1 (CU): No automatic firmware update) is raised by the Control Unit when it detects during booting that the 'Firmware update automatic' function has not been activated. When safety functions are enabled, this function must be active so that automatic firmware updates and downgrades cannot produce impermissible version combinations. The manual notes that this fault does not result in a safety stop response. The manuals for the G130, G150, S120 and S150 describe the fault in the same way.

Why it appears

  • During booting, the system detected that the 'Firmware update automatic' function is not activated (p7826 does not have the value 1).
  • With safety functions enabled, the function must be active, because automatic firmware updates and downgrades could otherwise create impermissible version combinations.

What to check

  1. Establish whether safety functions are enabled: p9501 and/or p9601 have a value other than 0.
  2. If safety functions are enabled, activate the 'Firmware update automatic' function (p7826 = 1).
  3. Back up the parameters (p0977 = 1) and then carry out a POWER ON.
  4. If you are deactivating the safety functions instead (p9501 = 0 and p9601 = 0), exit the safety commissioning mode; the fault can then be acknowledged.

Parameters the manual names

  • p7826 (Firmware update automatic): set to 1 to activate the function whose absence raised F01664.
  • p9501 (SI Motion enable safety functions, Control Unit): read to determine whether safety functions are enabled — any value other than 0 means they are.
  • p9601 (SI enable functions integrated in the drive, Control Unit): read together with p9501 to determine whether safety functions are enabled.
  • p0977 (Save all parameters): set to 1 to back up the parameters before the required POWER ON.

Acknowledging and restarting

How the fault is cleared depends on what you intend to do with the safety functions. If they remain enabled (p9501 and/or p9601 not equal to 0), set p7826 = 1, back up the parameters with p0977 = 1 and carry out a POWER ON. If you are deactivating the safety functions (p9501 = 0 and p9601 = 0), leave the safety commissioning mode first — only then can the fault be acknowledged.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F01664 on a SINAMICS drive mean?

During booting the Control Unit detected that the 'Firmware update automatic' function (p7826 = 1) was not activated. When safety functions are enabled, this function must be active so that automatic firmware updates cannot create impermissible version combinations.

How do I clear F01664?

If the safety functions are enabled (p9501 and/or p9601 not equal to 0), set p7826 = 1, back up the parameters with p0977 = 1 and carry out a POWER ON. If you are deactivating the safety functions instead, the fault can be acknowledged after exiting the safety commissioning mode.

Does F01664 trigger a safety stop?

No. The manual notes that this fault does not result in a safety stop response.

Which parameter controls the automatic firmware update?

p7826 (Firmware update automatic). Setting it to 1 activates the function that F01664 requires when safety functions are enabled.
