What to check
- Check parameter p1278 — when Safe Brake Control (SBC) is used, only p1278 = 0 is permissible.
- If power units are connected in parallel, check the setting of the power unit data set used to control the holding brake (p7015).
- Select Safe Torque Off and then de-select it again.
- Check the connection of the motor holding brake.
- Check the function of the motor holding brake.
- Check whether there is a DRIVE-CLiQ communication error between the Control Unit and the Motor Module involved and, if required, carry out a diagnostics routine for the faults identified.
- Check that the electrical cabinet design and cable routing comply with the EMC regulations — for example, the shields of the motor cable and brake conductors are connected with the shield connecting plate and the motor connectors are tightly screwed to the housing.
- Replace the Motor Module involved.
- During operation with a Safe Brake Module or Safe Brake Adapter: check its connection and, if required, replace the Safe Brake Module or Safe Brake Adapter.

The drive writes the cause into r0949; read the value as a decimal number (manuals that print a message value show it as %1). Match it against this list:
- 10, 11 — fault in "open holding brake" operation: parameter p1278 incorrectly set; no brake connected or wire breakage (check whether the brake releases for p1278 = 1 and p9602/p9802 = 0, i.e. with SBC deactivated); ground fault in the brake cable.
- 20 — fault in "brake open" state: short-circuit in the brake winding.
- 30, 31 — fault in "close holding brake" operation: no brake connected or wire breakage (check whether the brake releases for p1278 = 1 and p9602/p9802 = 0, i.e. with SBC deactivated); short-circuit in the brake winding.
- 40 — fault in "brake closed" state; the manual lists no separate cause.
- 50 — fault in the brake control circuit of the Control Unit or communication fault between the Control Unit and the Motor Module (brake control diagnostics).
