What it means
A31419 appears when the drive must correct track A or B of Encoder 1 so strongly that the applied amplitude, phase or offset correction reaches its limit. The drive can output the same condition not only as alarm A31419 but also as fault F31419 or without an automatic reaction (N); the drive's configuration decides which variant applies. Why it appears
- The amplitude/phase/offset correction for track A or B is at its limit — the correction has reached its minimum or maximum value.
- Amplitude error correction: the limit is reached when Amplitude B / Amplitude A = 0.78 ... 1.27.
- Phase error correction: the limit is reached when the phase is below 84 degrees or above 96 degrees.
- Offset correction: the limit is +/-140 mV for SMC20 and +/-650 mV for SMC10.
What to check
- Check the mechanical mounting tolerances for encoders without their own bearings (e.g. toothed-wheel encoders).
- Check the plug connections — including the transition resistance.
- Check the encoder signals.
- Replace the encoder or the encoder cable.
Reading the message value
The message value is the alarm value stored in r2124; interpret it hexadecimal. Each digit position of the value shows which correction has reached which limit:
- xxxx1: Minimum of the offset correction, track B
- xxxx2: Maximum of the offset correction, track B
- xxx1x: Minimum of the offset correction, track A
- xxx2x: Maximum of the offset correction, track A
- xx1xx: Minimum of the amplitude correction, track B/A
- xx2xx: Maximum of the amplitude correction, track B/A
- x1xxx: Minimum of the phase error correction
- x2xxx: Maximum of the phase error correction
- 1xxxx: Minimum of the cubic correction
- 2xxxx: Maximum of the cubic correction

Acknowledging and restarting
As alarm A31419 the drive takes no automatic action and the message requires no acknowledgement; eliminating the cause (see the checks above) is all that is needed. The same applies to the variant output without automatic reaction. If the condition is raised as fault F31419 instead, the drive executes the response configured for the drive object (ranging from NONE via OFF1, OFF2, OFF3 and STOP2 to ENCODER and IASC/DCBRK) and the fault can be acknowledged IMMEDIATELY; once the cause has been eliminated and the fault acknowledged, the drive can be restarted.
