What it means

A31411 is output when the absolute encoder connected as Encoder 1 signals an internal alarm: the encoder's fault word includes alarm bits that have been set, and the drive takes this word over as the alarm value in r2124. The alarm condition therefore arises inside the encoder itself, which passes it to the drive in its fault word. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be output as a fault (F) or with no reaction (N) instead of as this alarm.

Why it appears

  • The absolute encoder reports an internal condition: its fault word contains alarm bits that have been set, and the drive signals these as A31411.
  • Which internal condition the encoder is reporting — for example a discharged battery, an exceeded temperature, speed too high or an error in an internal encoder interface — is shown by the set bit in the alarm value r2124 (see the decoding under Message value).

Reading the message value

The message value carries two items: the fault cause (%1, output in binary) and the additional information (%2). Both come from the alarm value in r2124, which the manual interprets in binary as yyyyxxxx (hex): yyyy = supplementary information, xxxx = fault cause. The set bits mean:

  • yyyy = 0:
    • Bit 0: Frequency exceeded (speed too high).
