A31414Encoder 1: Amplitude error track C or D (C^2 + D^2)

What it means

A31414 is raised when the drive evaluates the amplitude (C^2 + D^2) formed from track C or track D of Encoder 1 — or from the Hall signals — and finds it outside the tolerance bandwidth. The manuals give the condition two titles: Encoder 1: Amplitude error track C or D (C^2 + D^2) on the G130 and G150, and Encoder 1: Signal level track C or D out of tolerance on the S120 and S150; apart from the wording of the title, they describe the code identically.

The nominal signal level of the encoder must lie in the range 375 mV to 600 mV (500 mV -25/+20 %). Note the manual's remark: if the amplitude is not within the tolerance bandwidth, it cannot be used to initialize the start position.

Why it appears

  • The signal level (C^2 + D^2) of track C or D of the encoder — or of the Hall signals — is not within the tolerance bandwidth.
  • The response thresholds are below 230 mV (observe the frequency response of the encoder) and above 750 mV, while the nominal level must lie between 375 mV and 600 mV (500 mV -25/+20 %).

  2. Check the plug connections.
  3. Replace the encoder or the encoder cable.
  4. Check the Sensor Module (e.g. contacts).

Reading the message value

  • The message value reads C track: %1, D track: %2 — the drive indicates the signal level of track C and of track D.
  • The alarm value is stored in r2124 and must be interpreted hexadecimal; it reads yyyyxxxx hex.
  • yyyy = Signal level, track D (16 bits with sign).
  • xxxx = Signal level, track C (16 bits with sign).
  • For orientation: a signal level of 500 mV peak value corresponds to the numerical value 5333 hex = 21299 dec.

Acknowledging and restarting

As alarm A31414 the drive takes no automatic action and the code requires no acknowledgment.
