A08754CAN: Incorrect communications mode

What it means

A08754 (CAN: Incorrect communications mode) is raised when an attempt is made to change the parameters p8700 ... p8737 while the CAN interface is in the “operational” communications mode. This range holds the CAN process-data configuration: it begins with p8700 (CAN Receive PDO 1) and ends with p8737 (CAN Transmit Mapping for TPDO 8). The drive only accepts writes to these parameters in the “pre-operational” or “stopped” mode. The manuals for the different converter families describe this alarm with the same cause and the same remedy, so its behaviour is identical wherever it appears.

Why it appears

  • An attempt was made to change the parameters p8700 ... p8737 while the CAN interface was in the “operational” communications mode.

What to check

  1. Leave the “operational” mode: switch the CAN communications mode to “pre-operational” or “stopped”.
  2. Make the change to p8700 ... p8737 in that mode instead — a write in the “operational” mode is exactly what raises this alarm.

Parameters the manual names

  • p8700 (CAN Receive PDO 1 / Receive PDO 1) — the first parameter of the range p8700 ... p8737; change it only in the “pre-operational” or “stopped” mode.
  • p8737 (CAN Transmit Mapping for TPDO 8 / Mapping TPDO 8) — the last parameter of the range; writing it in the “operational” mode triggers this alarm.

Acknowledging and restarting

This alarm needs no acknowledgement. Its whole remedy is the mode change: put the CAN communications mode into “pre-operational” or “stopped” and only then write the parameters p8700 ... p8737.

Questions technicians ask

What does SINAMICS alarm A08754 mean?

It is raised when an attempt was made to change parameters p8700 ... p8737 — the CAN PDO parameters — while the CAN interface was in the “operational” mode. Those parameters may only be written in the “pre-operational” or “stopped” mode.

How do I clear alarm A08754?

Switch the CAN communications mode to “pre-operational” or “stopped”. No acknowledgement is required for this alarm.

Which parameters trigger A08754?

The range p8700 ... p8737. It starts with p8700 (CAN Receive PDO 1 / Receive PDO 1) and ends with p8737 (CAN Transmit Mapping for TPDO 8 / Mapping TPDO 8).

Does A08754 also occur on my SINAMICS converter?

The alarm is described for the G120 as well as for the G130, G150, S120 and S150, and every manual gives the same cause and the same remedy.
