A01920PROFIBUS: Interruption cyclic connection

What it means

A01920 signals that the cyclic connection to the PROFIBUS master is interrupted, so the drive and the higher-level control system are no longer exchanging cyclic data over PROFIBUS. The manuals describe the code identically for every SINAMICS family on which it appears. Depending on the drive's configuration, the same condition can also be output as fault F01920.

Why it appears

  • The cyclic connection between the drive and the PROFIBUS master is interrupted, so cyclic data exchange with the master has stopped.

What to check

  1. Re-establish the PROFIBUS connection between the drive and the PROFIBUS master.
  2. Activate the PROFIBUS master again in cyclic mode.
  3. If the drive has no communication to a higher-level control system, set p2030 = 0 so that this message is suppressed.

Parameters the manual names

  • p2030 — field bus interface protocol selection: set p2030 = 0 when there is no communication to a higher-level control system; this suppresses the message.

Acknowledging and restarting

As an alarm, A01920 requires no acknowledgement; it goes away once the PROFIBUS connection has been re-established and the PROFIBUS master is again active in cyclic mode. If the drive is configured to output the condition as fault F01920 instead, an OFF1 reaction applies and the fault can be acknowledged IMMEDIATELY.

What differs between the drive families

Straight from the manuals' own fields — A01920 is not described identically everywhere.

Questions technicians ask

What does SINAMICS alarm A01920 mean?

It means the cyclic connection to the PROFIBUS master is interrupted, so the drive and the higher-level control system are no longer exchanging cyclic data.

How do I clear A01920 on my SINAMICS drive?

Re-establish the PROFIBUS connection and activate the PROFIBUS master in cyclic mode. As an alarm the message needs no acknowledgement and disappears once communication is back.

Can I suppress A01920 when the drive has no higher-level control system?

Yes. If there is no communication to a higher-level control system, set p2030 = 0 and the message is suppressed.

Why does my drive show fault F01920 instead of alarm A01920?

It is the same condition; depending on the drive's configuration it can also be issued as a fault. The drive then goes to OFF1 and the fault can be acknowledged IMMEDIATELY.
