On the display
The OptiView Touchscreen Control Center shows the safety fault message Motor - High bearing vibration. The manuals list this exact wording as the only variant for this model, and the event appears in the Safety fault messages list of the control center.
What it means
This is a safety shutdown of the chiller. It means that either the shaft end or the opposite shaft end motor bearing vibration has exceeded the value programmed for the high vibration shutdown setpoint, and has stayed above that value for the programmed number of delay seconds.
Why it appears
- Shaft end or opposite shaft end motor bearing vibration rose above the programmed high vibration shutdown setpoint and remained above it for the programmed number of delay seconds.
- Note on when it cannot occur: this safety shutdown does not happen while the motor vibration protection setpoint is set to disabled on the Motor Details Screen, or while the Warning - Motor - Bearing vibration baseline set warning is displayed.
Setpoints and thresholds
- High vibration shutdown setpoint — the programmed vibration value that either motor bearing vibration value must exceed for this safety to trip.
- Delay seconds — the programmed number of seconds the vibration must stay above the shutdown setpoint before the safety shutdown occurs.
- Motor vibration protection setpoint — located on the Motor Details Screen; when set to disabled, this safety shutdown does not occur.
Reset and restart
The manual gives the restart condition verbatim: The chiller can be started after both vibration values decrease below the shutdown threshold and the Clear button is pressed next to the listed event on the Systems Details Screen.
Recovery therefore requires two things: both motor bearing vibration values must first fall below the shutdown threshold, and the listed event must then be cleared with the Clear button on the Systems Details Screen before the chiller is started.
Questions engineers ask
How do I clear the Motor - High bearing vibration fault on a York YK?
Wait until both motor bearing vibration values decrease below the shutdown threshold, then press the Clear button next to the listed event on the Systems Details Screen. The chiller can be started once both steps are done.
What causes the Motor - High bearing vibration safety shutdown on a York YK?
Either the shaft end or the opposite shaft end motor bearing vibration has exceeded the programmed high vibration shutdown setpoint for the programmed number of delay seconds.
Can the Motor - High bearing vibration shutdown be turned off on a York YK?
The safety does not occur when the motor vibration protection setpoint is set to disabled on the Motor Details Screen, or while the Warning - Motor - Bearing vibration baseline set warning is displayed.
