F33860Encoder 3 DRIVE-CLiQ (CU): Telegram error

What it means

F33860 is raised by the Control Unit when a DRIVE-CLiQ telegram from the Sensor Module of encoder 3 arrives damaged or in a form it does not expect. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be signalled as an alarm or without any reaction. The message value tells you which component reported the problem and what exactly was wrong with the telegram: read it in r0949 when the condition appears as a fault, or in r2124 when it appears as an alarm. Both manuals describe this fault for the Sensor Module Encoder 3 in the same way, so everything below applies to every listed family.

Why it appears

  • A DRIVE-CLiQ communication error has occurred from the Sensor Module (encoder 3) involved to the Control Unit — the telegram it sends reaches the Control Unit damaged or not in the expected form.
  • Which defect it is, is coded in the fault cause of the message value; the manual gives the decoding reproduced below.

What to check

  1. Carry out a POWER ON — switch the drive off and on again.
  2. Check the electrical cabinet design and the cable routing for EMC compliance.
  3. Check the DRIVE-CLiQ wiring — interrupted cable, contacts and the like.
  4. For the G130 and G150 the manual additionally cross-references p9915 when this fault occurs (see the parameter list below).

Reading the message value

  • The value is coded as 0000yyxx hex: yy is the component number, xx the fault cause.
  • 1 (01 hex): checksum error (CRC error).
  • 2 or 3 (02/03 hex): the telegram is shorter or longer than specified in the length byte or in the receive list.
  • 4 or 5 (04/05 hex): the length or the type of the receive telegram does not match the receive list.
  • 6 (06 hex): the power unit address in the telegram and in the receive list do not match.
  • 9 (09 hex): the component involved signals that its supply voltage has failed.
  • 16 (10 hex): the receive telegram arrives too early.
  • 17 to 22 (11 hex to 16 hex): one of the six defects of causes 1 to 6 above, occurring together with a receive telegram that arrives too early.
  • 25 (19 hex): the error bit is set in the receive telegram, which also arrives too early.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — the fault value; read the coded component number and fault cause (0000yyxx hex) here for this fault.
  • r2124 — the alarm value; it holds the same coded information when the drive signals the condition as an alarm instead.
  • p9915 — DRIVE-CLiQ data transfer error shutdown threshold master; the G130/G150 entry points to this threshold parameter in connection with the telegram error.

Acknowledging and restarting

The manual names a POWER ON (switch-off/switch-on) as the first remedy, so the fault clears with a power-up cycle once the cause is gone. Acknowledge the fault before restarting the drive. If the telegram error returns, work through the remaining checks — EMC-suitable cabinet design and cable routing, then the DRIVE-CLiQ wiring — before repeating the POWER ON.

What differs between the drive families

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F33860 mean on a SINAMICS?

A DRIVE-CLiQ telegram from the Sensor Module of encoder 3 reached the Control Unit damaged or in an unexpected form. The message value in r0949 identifies the component and the exact defect.

How do I clear fault F33860?

Switch the drive off and on again (POWER ON) and acknowledge the fault. If it recurs, check the cabinet design and cable routing for EMC compliance and inspect the DRIVE-CLiQ wiring for interrupted cables or poor contacts.

How can I see what caused F33860?

Read the fault value in r0949 (or the alarm value in r2124): coded as 0000yyxx hex, yy is the component number and xx the fault cause, e.g. 01 hex for a CRC error or 09 hex for a failed supply voltage.

Can F33860 also appear as an alarm?

Yes. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can be signalled as an alarm or without any reaction; in r2124 you then find the same coded value.
