F31912 — Encoder 1: Device combination is not permissible

F31912 is raised for Encoder 1 when the selected device combination is not supported: the measuring unit connected to the encoder cannot be operated with the EnDat 2.2 converter, or a set combination of cycles or of resolutions exceeds what the converter supports. Which case applies is stored as the fault value in r0949 — interpret it as a decimal number and compare it with the decoding below. The S120/S150 and G130/G150 manuals describe this code identically.

• The selected device combination is not supported: what is configured for Encoder 1 cannot run on the EnDat 2.2 converter as set. The fault value in r0949 (interpret decimal) identifies the concrete case — see the decoding below.

1. Read the fault value in r0949 and interpret it as a decimal number to see which combination was rejected.
2. Fault values 1003, 1005 and 1006: use a measuring unit that is permissible — one that the EnDat 2.2 converter supports. 1003 signals for instance a pulse number/resolution of 2^n, 1005 an unsupported incremental type, 1006 an EnDat transfer that exceeded the maximum duration of 31.25 µs.
3. Fault value 2001: set a permissible combination of current controller cycle, DP cycle and Safety cycle — if required, use the standard settings.
4. Fault value 2002: use a linear measuring unit with a lower resolution (p0422) so that the resolution matches the pole pair width of the linear motor — pole pair width, minimum = p0422 * 2^20.

The drive stores the fault value in r0949; interpret it as a decimal number:

• 1003 — the connected measuring unit cannot be operated with the EnDat 2.2 converter; for instance, the measuring unit has a pulse number/resolution of 2^n.
• 1005 — the type of measuring unit (incremental) is not supported by the EnDat 2.2 converter.
• 1006 — the maximum duration of the EnDat transfer (31.25 µs) was exceeded.
• 2001 — the set combination of current controller cycle, DP cycle and Safety cycle is not supported by the EnDat 2.2 converter.
• 2002 — the resolution of the linear measuring unit does not match the pole pair width of the linear motor; pole pair width, minimum = p0422 * 2^20.

• r0949 — fault value: read it here and interpret it as a decimal number; the value (1003, 1005, 1006, 2001 or 2002) tells you which device combination the drive rejected.
• p0422 — absolute encoder linear measuring step resolution: the step resolution of the linear measuring unit; for fault value 2002 it enters the minimum pole pair width (p0422 * 2^20), and the remedy is to use a unit with a lower resolution (p0422).

Correct the impermissible combination first (see the steps above), then acknowledge the fault: acknowledgement is performed with pulse inhibit, so bring the drive into a state in which the pulses are inhibited, acknowledge, and re-enable the converter afterwards.
