F01912PB/PN: clock cycle synchronous operation sign-of-life failure

What it means

In clock cycle synchronous operation the drive and the controller exchange a sign-of-life signal cyclically over PROFIBUS (PB) or PROFINET (PN). The drive watches the controller's sign-of-life and raises F01912 when, in cyclic operation, more errors have occurred than are permitted: The maximum permissible number of errors in the controller sign-of-life (clock synchronous operation) has been exceeded in cyclic operation. How many telegram failures are tolerated is set in p0925. The affected drive object is taken offline with OFF1 — or OFF3 where that is selected — and the message must be acknowledged before the drive will restart. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be output as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N); in both of those cases the drive itself takes no action.

Why it appears

  • In cyclic clock-synchronous operation the controller sign-of-life over the PB/PN bus has contained more errors than the drive tolerates — the maximum permissible number of errors was exceeded.

What to check

  1. Check the bus physically: cables, connectors, terminating resistor, shielding and the like.
  2. Correct the interconnection of the controller sign-of-life in p2045.
  3. Check that the controller is actually sending its sign-of-life correctly — for example, record a trace of STW2.12 ... STW2.15 and use ZSW1.3 as the trigger signal.
  4. Check the permissible telegram failure rate in p0925.
  5. Check the bus and the controller for utilization — for example, the bus cycle time Tdp may have been set too short.

Parameters the manual names

  • p2045 — signal source (CI interconnection) of the PB/PN clock-synchronous controller sign-of-life; correct the sign-of-life interconnection here if it is wired incorrectly in the configuration.
  • p0925 — tolerance of the clock-synchronous sign-of-life, i.e. the permissible telegram failure rate; check this value when F01912 occurs.

Acknowledging and restarting

The fault is acknowledged immediately (acknowledgement class IMMEDIATELY); once it has been acknowledged the drive can be restarted. If the drive is configured to output the same condition only as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N), the drive neither responds nor requires an acknowledgement.

What differs between the drive families

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F01912 mean on a SINAMICS?

In clock cycle synchronous operation over PROFIBUS or PROFINET, the sign-of-life of the controller has contained more errors than permitted, i.e. the maximum permissible number of errors in cyclic operation has been exceeded.

How is F01912 fixed?

Check the bus physically (cables, connectors, terminating resistor, shielding), correct the sign-of-life interconnection in p2045, confirm with a trace of STW2.12 ... STW2.15 (trigger ZSW1.3) that the controller sends its sign-of-life, check p0925 and the bus utilization (e.g. bus cycle time Tdp), and then acknowledge the fault immediately.

Can F01912 also appear as an alarm?

Yes — depending on the drive configuration the same condition can also be output as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N). In both cases the drive takes no action and no acknowledgement is required.

Which parameters belong to F01912?

p2045 selects the signal source of the controller sign-of-life, and p0925 sets the tolerance, i.e. the permissible telegram failure rate.
