A01021Removable data medium as USB data storage medium from the PC used

What it means

A01021 reports that the removable data medium in the drive is currently being used as a USB data storage medium from a PC. Because the PC occupies the medium, the drive cannot access it, and when backing up, the configuration data cannot be saved on the removable data medium. The alarm value in r2124 tells you which of the two backup-inhibiting situations applies. The alarm does not trigger any drive reaction and does not need to be acknowledged; it clears by itself once the PC no longer uses the medium.

Why it appears

  • A PC is using the removable data medium as a USB data storage medium.
  • As a consequence, the drive cannot access the removable data medium.
  • When backing up, the configuration data cannot be saved on the removable data medium.

What to check

  1. Read the alarm value in r2124 — interpret it as a decimal number — to see which situation the drive is reporting (see the decoding below).
  2. Deactivate the USB connection to the PC.
  3. Back up the configuration data.

Reading the message value

  • The drive stores the alarm value in r2124; interpret it as a decimal number.
  • 1: The know-how protection as well as the copy protection for the removable data medium is active. Backup is inhibited.
  • 2: The configuration data are only backed up in the Control Unit.
  • For the protection state and the card status, the manual also points to r7760 (Write protection/know-how protection status) and r9401 (Safely remove memory card status).

Parameters the manual names

  • r2124 — alarm value: read the decimal value here to see whether backup is inhibited by active know-how and copy protection (1) or the configuration data are only backed up in the Control Unit (2).

Acknowledging and restarting

This alarm does not need to be acknowledged. The alarm is automatically canceled when disconnecting the USB connection or when removing the removable data medium. After deactivating the USB connection to the PC, back up the configuration data.

Questions technicians ask

What does SINAMICS alarm A01021 mean?

A PC is using the drive's removable data medium as a USB data storage medium, so the drive cannot access the medium and cannot save the configuration data on it when backing up.

How do I fix alarm A01021?

Deactivate the USB connection to the PC and then back up the configuration data. The alarm clears itself as soon as the USB connection is disconnected or the removable data medium is removed.

Does A01021 have to be acknowledged?

No. The alarm is canceled automatically when the USB connection is disconnected or the removable data medium is removed, and the drive takes no reaction to it.

What do alarm values 1 and 2 in r2124 mean for A01021?

Value 1 means the know-how protection as well as the copy protection for the removable data medium is active and backup is inhibited. Value 2 means the configuration data are only backed up in the Control Unit.
