A49204Excitation switch-off alarm

What it means

A49204 (Excitation switch-off alarm) is raised by the Control Unit (CU) when the drive switches the excitation off and the excitation current is still flowing after the delay time set in p1647 has expired. The manuals describe the alarm the same way for every drive object concerned. Depending on the drive's configuration, the same condition can also be issued with no reaction (N).

Why it appears

  • After the drive switched off the excitation, the delay time set in p1647 expired while the excitation current had still not decayed to zero.

What to check

  1. Extend the switch-off delay time in p1647 so that the excitation current has enough time to decay to zero after the excitation is switched off.

Parameters the manual names

  • p1647 — excitation switch-off delay time (Exc t_off): increase this time when A49204 appears, so the excitation current can reach zero before the switch-off delay expires.

Acknowledging and restarting

No acknowledgment is required: The alarm is automatically reset after adapting p1647. Once the switch-off delay time has been extended, the message disappears by itself.

The same on every family

Every manual that describes A49204 gives it the same reaction, acknowledgement and message class.

Questions technicians ask

What does alarm A49204 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

The excitation current had still not decayed to zero when the delay time set in p1647 expired after the drive switched the excitation off. The Control Unit (CU) reports this as the Excitation switch-off alarm.

How do I clear alarm A49204?

You do not need to acknowledge it. Extend the switch-off delay time in p1647 and the alarm is reset automatically.

What is p1647?

p1647 is the excitation switch-off delay time (Exc t_off). Increasing it gives the excitation current more time to decay to zero after the excitation is switched off.

Which drives can issue A49204?

The alarm is described for SINAMICS G130, G150, S120 and S150.
