The OptiView panel shows warning message to re-lubricate
; the manuals also print it as Warning message to re-lubricate
. It is a warning, not a trip — the chiller keeps running when it appears. The panel raises the message by itself, beginning at a programmed number of motor operating hours.
What it means
This message tells you the motor has reached the programmed number of operating hours at which the bearings are due for re-lubrication; the default value is 1000 hours. It is an advance reminder to grease the motor bearings, which are lubricated at each specified interval at both the DE and NDE ends. If re-lubrication is not addressed, the same feature shuts the chiller down at the programmed value plus 400 hours. In plants where chillers run 24/7, this gives more than 16 days of advance warning before that shutdown.
Why it appears
- The programmed number of motor operating hours has been reached (the default value is 1000 hours).
What to check
- Open the relief port plug below the bearing, if equipped.
- Add the specified amount of grease to both the DE and NDE bearings, as listed in the manual's grease table. Only pump the required number of pumps as determined by the calibration procedure — do not expect old grease to exit at the relief port.
- Run the motor for 30 to 45 minutes. It is not necessary to see old grease coming out from the relief port after adding the new grease.
- Re-install the plug.
Setpoints and thresholds
- The warning begins at a programmed number of motor operating hours; the default value is 1000 hours.
- The chiller shuts down at the programmed value plus 400 hours if re-lubrication is not addressed.
Questions engineers ask
What does the warning message to re-lubricate mean on a YORK YK?
It means the motor has reached the programmed number of operating hours at which the bearings are due for re-lubrication — the default value is 1000 hours. The chiller keeps running, but it will shut down at the programmed value plus 400 hours if the bearings are not re-lubricated.
How much time do I have before the chiller shuts down?
The shutdown comes at the programmed value plus 400 hours. In a plant where the chiller runs 24/7, that is more than 16 days of advance warning.
How do I re-lubricate the motor bearings on a YORK YK?
Open the relief port plug below the bearing if equipped, add the specified amount of grease to the DE and NDE bearings, run the motor for 30 to 45 minutes, then re-install the plug. Only pump the number of pumps determined by the calibration procedure, and do not expect old grease to exit at the relief port.
Does this warning stop the chiller immediately?
No. It is a warning only; the shutdown happens at the programmed value plus 400 hours if re-lubrication is not addressed.
