On the display
The panel shows UNIT WARNING: !! LOW BATTERY !! CHECK SETPOINTS/PROGRAM/OPTIONS/TIME. This is one of the unit warnings, and the manual notes that warnings are not logged to the history buffer. The message is displayed indefinitely and can only occur at unit power-up, when the micropanel checks the RTC battery. The tail of the message itself names what the operator is expected to check: setpoints, program, options and time.
What it means
The RTC battery voltage has been determined to be low. On micropanel power-up the RTC battery is checked to see if it is still operational; if its voltage is determined to be low, this warning is displayed. A low battery condition means that all programmed setpoints, program values, time, schedule, and history buffers have been lost and reset to their default values, which may not be the desired operating values.
Why it appears
- The RTC battery, located on the Chiller Logic Board, is determined to be low when the micropanel checks it at power-up.
What to check
- Press the MANUAL OVERRIDE key — the unit is prevented from running until this key is pressed.
- Use the time this provides: the anti-recycle timers are set to the programmed default anti-recycle time to allow the operator sufficient time to check the settings.
- Go through the setpoints, program values, options, time and schedule, since all of them were reset to default values that may not be the desired operating values.
- Replace the RTC battery, located on the Chiller Logic Board, as soon as possible.
Setpoints and thresholds
- Setpoints, program values, time, schedule, history buffers: lost at power-up and reset to default values, which may not be the desired operating values.
- Anti-recycle timers: set to the programmed default anti-recycle time when the MANUAL OVERRIDE key is pressed.
Reset and restart
The unit is prevented from running until the MANUAL OVERRIDE key is pressed. The unit is prevented from running until the MANUAL OVERRIDE key is pressed; pressing it sets the anti-recycle timers to the programmed default anti-recycle time to allow the operator sufficient time to check setpoints, program values, etc.
The manual gives no other reset step for this warning. Until the battery is replaced, the programmed values will all be lost and the unit will be prevented from running on the next power interruption.
Questions engineers ask
What does UNIT WARNING !! LOW BATTERY !! mean on a YORK YCAV?
The RTC battery voltage was found low at micropanel power-up. All programmed setpoints, program values, time, schedule and history buffers were lost and reset to default values, which may not be the desired operating values.
Why will my YORK YCAV not run after the low battery warning?
The unit is prevented from running until the MANUAL OVERRIDE key is pressed. Pressing it sets the anti-recycle timers to the programmed default anti-recycle time so you have time to check setpoints, program values, etc.
Where is the RTC battery on a YORK YCAV?
The RTC/Battery is located on the Chiller Logic Board.
What happens if the battery is not replaced?
The programmed values will all be lost and the unit will be prevented from running on the next power interruption, so the battery should be replaced as soon as possible.
