Simplex 4100ES — Install Mode Active

The panel shows the message as Install Mode Active; the fault tables also print it in capitals as INSTALL MODE ACTIVE. It is a single fault indication — one fault point entry — shown while any device is in the Install Mode list. The Fault light flashes for it, and pressing the <Fault Ack> key opens the Fault List, which now contains this single entry instead of the individual device faults.

This fault is not a report of one bad device. While any device is on the Install Mode list, the listed devices produce no fault indications of their own, even if they are missing or faulty: all of their individual device faults are hidden behind the single Install Mode Active fault. The intent is that devices are placed on the list during installation and commissioning, and that as modules and devices are progressively added to the system and normalised, they can be removed from the list again.

• One or more internal modules or external devices have been added to the Install Mode list.
• Devices are put on the list during installation/commissioning while they are known to be missing or off-normal.
• Where many devices are missing, or are not connected to the field wiring and would all produce faults at once, they may have been added to the list in bulk.

1. Log in at Level 3 — adding devices to, or removing them from, the Install Mode list requires it; the Operator Manual describes logging in.
2. View the contents of the Install Mode list from the front panel interface to see which devices are on it.
3. To remove a single device, open its entry and use <More Info> → “Remove from Install Mode?”.
4. To work in bulk, press the <Menu> key.
5. Step through the menu with the Next/Previous arrows to Diagnostic Functions? and press <Enter>.
6. Step to View/Modify Install Mode List? and press <Enter>.
7. Step through to Move ALL NORMAL devices from install mode or Move ALL DEVICES from install mode to take the listed devices off the list.
8. Check the result: if a device you removed is still in fault, the system fault count will increase and the Fault indicator will flash for the new fault.

• Adding or removing devices from the Install Mode list requires being logged in at Level 3.
• In the programming guide for the 4100ES-S1, the INSTALL MODE ACTIVE TROUBLE point is P484: the master activates it whenever a point is in Install Mode, and it clears when there are no points in Install Mode.

There is no separate reset command for this fault: it clears when the Install Mode list is empty. Remove the listed devices — individually or in bulk, as described above — and the trouble clears once no points remain in Install Mode. When the system is fully commissioned, the Install Mode list should be empty. If a device removed from the list is still in fault, the system fault count will increase and the Fault indicator will flash for a new fault.
