N32800Encoder 2: Group signal

What it means

N32800 is the group signal of Encoder 2. It names no individual fault: the drive raises it because the motor encoder has detected at least one fault, i.e. because another message of this encoder is currently active. The manuals for SINAMICS G130/G150 and for S120/S150 describe the message identically. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be issued as a fault.

Why it appears

  • The motor encoder has detected at least one fault; N32800 only announces that at least one individual message of Encoder 2 is present.

What to check

  1. Evaluate the other messages that are active at the same time: the individual Encoder 2 messages show which actual fault the group signal is reporting.

Acknowledging and restarting

The message form needs no acknowledgement. When the drive raises the condition as a fault, it is acknowledged immediately.

Questions technicians ask

What does N32800 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

It is the group signal of Encoder 2: the motor encoder has detected at least one fault, and the message announces that an individual Encoder 2 message is active.

Why does N32800 name no cause?

The message is a summary signal. Its remedy is to evaluate the other messages that are active at the same time, and those carry the actual fault information.

Can N32800 also appear as a fault?

Yes. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition is issued as a fault as well.

How is N32800 cleared?

The message form needs no acknowledgement. In its fault form it is acknowledged immediately.
