F34207VSM: Temperature fault threshold exceeded

What it means

F34207 is raised when the temperature that the Voltage Sensing Module (VSM) measures — visible in r3666 — exceeds the overtemperature shutdown threshold set in p3668. The monitoring only exists if temperature evaluation has been activated with p3665 > 0; without it the fault cannot be output. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be signalled as an alarm or with no reaction at all (the manuals note the variants N and A). The component concerned is the Voltage Sensing Module (VSM).

Why it appears

  • The temperature measured by the VSM (r3666) has exceeded the threshold value set in p3668.
  • The fault can only be output if the temperature evaluation was activated (p3665 > 0) — with temperature evaluation off, this fault cannot appear.

What to check

  1. Check the fan.
  2. Reduce the power.
  3. Check the temperature sensor type setting (p3665).
  4. On the infeed, also check the line filter type setting (p0220) — the manuals add this step for the infeed drive objects, while for the VECTOR drive objects the remedy ends with the fan, the power and the sensor type setting.

Reading the message value

  • The message value is printed as the placeholder %1. The drive writes it into r0949, which is to be interpreted as a decimal number.
  • Decoding: the value is the temperature actual value at the time the fault was initiated, given in 0.1 °C.

Parameters the manual names

  • r3666 (VSM temperature actual value): read the temperature the VSM is currently measuring, for example to confirm it has dropped back below the threshold before restarting.
  • p3668 (VSM overtemperature shutdown threshold): the limit whose exceedance triggered the fault.
  • p3665 (VSM temperature evaluation sensor type): temperature evaluation is only active when this is set greater than 0; the remedy also asks you to check the sensor type setting here.
  • r0949 (fault value): read as a decimal number it holds the temperature at the moment the fault was initiated, in 0.1 °C.
  • p0220 (line filter type setting): on the infeed, check this setting as part of the remedy.

Acknowledging and restarting

Once the cause has been removed, the fault must be acknowledged. The manuals allow immediate acknowledgement, and switching the power supply off and on again (POWER ON) also acknowledges the fault. Whether the drive tripped or the fault was only signalled depends on the drive object; the message table shows the exact reaction per drive object. After acknowledgement, with the temperature back below the value in p3668, the drive can be restarted.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F34207 in SINAMICS mean?

The temperature measured by the Voltage Sensing Module (VSM) — shown in r3666 — has exceeded the shutdown threshold set in p3668. The fault is only active when temperature evaluation is switched on with p3665 > 0.

How do I fix fault F34207?

Check the fan and reduce the power, then check the temperature sensor type setting (p3665); on the infeed the manuals additionally ask to check the line filter type setting (p0220).

What is stored in r0949 for F34207?

Interpreted as a decimal number, r0949 holds the temperature actual value at the time the fault was initiated, in 0.1 °C.

Why is F34207 sometimes shown as an alarm instead of a fault?

The same condition can also be issued as an alarm or with no reaction; which of the three appears depends on the drive's configuration.
