On the display

What it means
This is a VSD stop-contacts fault. The manual's troubleshooting path for it runs through the VSD logic board (fault LED near the J16 connector), the wiring between J4 on the 031-03958 board and J14 on the 031-02911 board, the 24 VDC power supply with its 120 V AC feed, the J1 connection on the 031-03958 board, and the cable between the two boards — the possible causes the manual lists all sit in this chain.
Why it appears
- The VSD logic board is indicating a fault (the fault LED near the J16 connector is lit).
- A wiring fault between J4 on the 031-03958 board and J14 on the 031-02911 board.
- The 24 VDC power supply output is outside 23-26 VDC, or the supply has failed.
- The 120 V AC feed to the power supply is missing — the HOT and NTRL wires are miswired or a fuse is open.
- J1 is not installed correctly, or polarity is reversed on the 031-03958 board.
- The cable between the boards is faulty.
- The 031-02911 board is in fault.
- The 031-03958 board has failed.
What to check
- Check whether the fault LED near the J16 connector on the VSD logic board is lit.
- If the LED is lit, the logic board is indicating a fault: go to form 160.78-M3 for the M1 motor application, to form 160.84-M3 for the M2 and M6 motor in YMC2 applications, or to form 160.00-M10 for YK applications with motors of up to 1100 HP (50 HZ) and 1300 HP (60 HZ).
- If the LED is not lit, check all wiring between J4 on the 031-03958 board and J14 on the 031-02911 board and correct any problems found; if this does not correct the problem, continue.
- Look at the LED on the 24 VDC power supply; it sits on the face of the supply, toward the inside of the drive.
- If that LED is lit, measure the output voltage at the terminals marked + and -. A reading of 23-26 VDC means the 031-03958 board must be replaced. If the reading is outside that window, remove the J1 connector and measure again: 23-26 VDC points again to the 031-03958 board, while a reading outside 23-26 VDC means the power supply must be replaced.
- If the supply LED is not lit, measure for 120 V AC at the power supply's input. If 120 V AC is present, replace the power supply. If it is absent, make sure the HOT wire runs to J2 pin 2 on the 031-03958 board and to the appropriate fuse (the fuse must not be open), and that NTRL is connected as the connection diagram shows.
- Confirm that J1 is installed correctly on the 031-03958 board and measure DC between J1 pin 1 (red lead) and J1 pin 2 (black lead).
- If 24 VDC is present but with negative polarity, check that the brown (POS) wire runs from the positive supply terminal to J1 pin 1 and the black (NEG) wire from the negative terminal to J1 pin 2; if the problem remains, replace the 031-03958 board.
- If no 24 VDC is present, remove J1 and measure at the harness connector: 24 VDC there points to the 031-03958 board; without 24 VDC, correct the power-supply output wiring or replace the power supply.
- Measure AC voltage from J4 pin 2 to ground on the 031-03958 board. If it is not 120 V AC, measure J14 pin 4 on the 031-02911 board: 120 V AC there means the cable (part number 571-09367-205) is corrected or replaced; no 120 V AC means the reason the 031-02911 board is in fault must be found.
- If J4 pin 2 reads 120 V AC, measure from J4 pin 1 to ground: 120 V AC means the 031-03958 board is working properly; without it, the problem lies with the 24 VDC supply, the cable, or a failed 031-03958 board.
- If the fault is still not solved, contact PTS.
Setpoints and thresholds
- 120 V AC — the fault appears when 120 V AC is applied; the checks measure 120 V AC at the power-supply input, from J4 pin 2 to ground, and at J14 pin 4.
- 23-26 VDC — the acceptable output window of the 24 VDC power supply in the measurement steps.
- 24 VDC — the nominal DC level checked across J1 pin 1 and J1 pin 2, and at the harness connector with J1 removed.
