What it means
The drive raises F50518 when a STARTER/SCOUT project is downloaded in which the hardware sampling time of a free run-time group (1 <= p20000[i] <= 256) is set to a value that is either too low or too high. The sampling time of such a group must lie between 1 ms and the value r20003 - r20002. While loading the project the drive corrects an out-of-range value: if the sampling time of the selected free run-time group is below 1 ms, the equivalent value of 1 ms is used; if the value is >= r20003, the sampling time is set to the next higher or the same software sampling time >= r21003. For an overview of the hardware sampling times available, the manual refers to r20008. The G120 and G120XA manuals describe this fault identically, so the explanation below applies to both.
Why it appears
- In the STARTER/SCOUT project that was downloaded, the hardware sampling time of a free run-time group (1 <= p20000[i] <= 256) was set to a value that is either too low or too high.
- The sampling time must be between 1 ms and the value r20003 - r20002, so a smaller or a larger setting in the project triggers the fault at download.
What to check
- Correctly set the sampling time of the run-time group in the STARTER/SCOUT project — between 1 ms and r20003 - r20002.
- If required, take all of the blocks from the run-time group.
- Download the corrected project again. If the fault occurs again at download after correcting p20000[i], identify the run-time group involved using the fault value in r0949 and set its sampling time correctly.
Reading the message value
- Interpret the value in r0949 as a decimal number: it is the number of the p20000 index of the run-time group where the sampling time is incorrectly set.
- The number of the run-time group equals the fault value + 1.
Parameters the manual names
- r0949 — fault value; read it in decimal to obtain the p20000 index of the run-time group with the wrong sampling time, then add 1 to get the run-time group number.
Acknowledging and restarting
The fault must be acknowledged immediately. Because it is caused by a project setting, the correction is made in STARTER/SCOUT rather than at the converter: set the sampling time of the run-time group correctly (or take all of the blocks from the group) and download the project to the drive again. F50518 only detects an incorrectly parameterized run-time group.
What differs between the drive families
Straight from the manuals' own fields — F50518 is not described identically everywhere.

Questions technicians ask
What does fault F50518 mean on a SINAMICS G120 or G120XA?
A free run-time group in the downloaded STARTER/SCOUT project has a hardware sampling time set too low or too high. The value must lie between 1 ms and r20003 - r20002.
How do I find out which run-time group caused F50518?
Read the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number — it is the p20000 index of the affected group. The number of the run-time group is that value + 1.
How is fault F50518 cleared?
Set the sampling time of the run-time group correctly in the project, or if required take all of the blocks from the group, then download the project again and acknowledge immediately.
F50518 comes back at every download even after I corrected p20000[i] — what now?
Use the fault value in r0949 to identify the run-time group involved and set its sampling time correctly. The fault only detects an incorrectly parameterized run-time group.
