Load cells are used in the widest variety of application areas, including platform, filling, belt and packaging scales, dynamic test systems as well as electronic precision, price-labelling and industrial scales. ## What is a load cell?

- A load cell is a transducer or electronic sensor for measuring force or mass. Thus, load cells are special forms of force transducers that are used in weighing equipment. Unlike force transducers, load cells are not calibrated in newtons (N), but rather in grams (g), kilograms (kg) or tonnes (t).

## What types of load cell are available?

- Single point load cells, also known as platform load cells, are one of the most commonly used load cells due to their wide range of applications. In particular, single point load cells are used in scales and weighing equipment when weight detection is not predictably centric. Scales and weighing equipment with single point load cells are insensitive to side and corner loading and are very easy to install and use.
- In addition to single point load cells, WIKA also offers other measuring options for determining forces. Among others, bending beam load cells and shear beam load cells are also used for this purpose, for which strain gauges or thin-film sensors are attached to or in the measuring body for force measurement. The WIKA product portfolio is completed by s-type load cells, canister load cells and compression load cells.
