YORK YKWhen Conducting the CO Sensor Test the Flip Dot Does Not Turn Red.

On the display

The message reads When Conducting the CO Sensor Test the Flip Dot Does Not Turn Red. The manual prints it under this exact wording, and no other variant of the message is listed for this model.

What it means

The message means that the flip dot does not turn red while the CO sensor test is being carried out. The manual's troubleshooting looks for the reason in how the test is being performed, in where the can of CO is aimed, in the wiring at the sensor bases and at TB1 on the 031-03958 board, or in a sensor whose LED does not light.

Why it appears

  • The CO sensor test is not being conducted per the installation instructions.
  • The can of CO is not directed at the sensor with the white grill.
  • The wiring to the base of the sensors, or the wiring at TB1 on the 031-03958 board, is installed incorrectly.
  • A sensor — black-grill or white-grill — whose LED does not light.

What to check

  1. Determine whether the CO sensor test is being conducted per the installation instructions; if it is not, repeat the test correctly.
  2. Check that the can of CO is directed at the sensor with the white grill; if it is not, direct the can of CO at that sensor.
  3. Remove the 120 V AC and remove both sensors.
  4. Compare the wiring to the base of both sensors, and the wiring at TB1 on the 031-03958 board, with the wiring diagram provided in the kit, and correct any wiring error.
  5. Reinstall the sensor with the white grill, apply 120 V AC and repeat the test — the LED on the white-grill sensor should light.
  6. Remove the 120 V AC, reinstall the sensor with the black grill and reapply 120 V AC this will reset the sensor; repeat the test — the LED on the white-grill sensor should light, and the system is then working properly.
  7. If an LED is not lit, install a new sensor with the black grill and repeat the CO sensor test.
  8. If an LED is still not lit, install a new sensor with the white grill and repeat the CO sensor test again.
  9. If the problem is still not solved after these replacements, contact PTS.

Reset and restart

The manual gives no fault reset for this message. The only reset it describes concerns the sensor itself and is part of the check sequence above: with the 120 V AC removed, the sensor with the black grill is reinstalled and the 120 V AC is reapplied, which resets the sensor, after which the CO sensor test is repeated. When the LED on the white-grill sensor lights during that test, the system is working properly.

Questions engineers ask

Why does the flip dot not turn red during the CO sensor test on a YORK YK?

The manual lists four possible reasons: the test is not being conducted per the installation instructions, the can of CO is not directed at the sensor with the white grill, the wiring at the sensor bases or at TB1 on the 031-03958 board is installed incorrectly, or a sensor's LED does not light.

How do I fix the CO sensor test flip dot fault?

Repeat the test per the installation instructions and make sure the can of CO is aimed at the sensor with the white grill. Then remove the 120 V AC, check the wiring at both sensor bases and at TB1 on the 031-03958 board against the wiring diagram provided in the kit, and test each sensor in turn, installing a new sensor if an LED does not light.

Which sensor should the can of CO be pointed at during the test?

The sensor with the white grill. The manual directs that the can of CO be aimed at that sensor, and the LED on the white-grill sensor is the one that should light when the test is repeated.

When do I replace a CO sensor after a failed flip dot test?

If an LED is not lit after the wiring has been checked, install a new sensor with the black grill and repeat the CO sensor test; if an LED is still not lit, install a new sensor with the white grill and test again. If the problem is still not solved, the manual says to contact PTS.
