YORK YK — HIGH SPEED DRAIN TEMP

When this safety operates, the panel shows the shutdown line MON XX:XX AM - HIGH SPEED DRAIN TEMP; the day and time in the stamp are when the chiller tripped (sample prints in the manual show the same format, e.g. FRI 9:41 AM). The reading itself is also a live data message: as message NO. 7 the panel shows HIGH SPEED DRAIN TEMP = XXX.X °F, which the manual defines as the temperature of the oil in the high speed drain line. To hold this value on the panel, press the DISPLAY DATA key, then the DISPLAY HOLD key — the message is updated every 2 seconds until DISPLAY DATA is pressed again. The value also appears as a line on operator-initiated and data-logging prints.

This is a safety shutdown of the chiller, not a cycling shutdown. It means the "Proximity/Temperature Sensor" has measured that the temperature of the high speed drain line — the oil in that line — has reached 250°F (121°C) or greater. Because it is classified as a safety shutdown with a LOCKOUT action, the chiller will not restart on its own; the unit stays locked out until a qualified service technician has completed the inspection and reset described below.

• The "Proximity/Temperature Sensor" detected that the temperature of the high speed drain line has reached 250°F (121°C) or greater.

1. Leave the chiller off — this message is a LOCKOUT, and the unit cannot be restarted until the following steps are complete.
2. Have a qualified service technician perform a visual inspection of the high speed thrust bearing.
3. After the inspection, the technician performs the special reset procedure detailed in the YORK Service manual, Form 160.49-M2.

• Trip threshold: the safety operates when the high speed drain line temperature reaches 250°F (121°C) or greater, as read by the "Proximity/Temperature Sensor".

There is no reset at the panel for this message. The manual states that the chiller cannot be restarted until a qualified service technician performs visual inspection of the high speed thrust bearing and performs a special reset procedure; that procedure is detailed in the YORK Service manual, Form 160.49-M2. The manual is explicit about the order of the work: Failure to perform the visual inspection prior to restarting the chiller could result in severe compressor damage!!!
