The panel reads MON XX:XX AM - HIGH OIL TEMP; MON XX:XX AM is the date and time the shutdown was recorded, not part of the message text. In the chiller's history log the same event is printed as HIGH OIL TEMPERATURE (the sample log shows, for instance, DAY 10:30 AM - HIGH OIL TEMPERATURE). The manual lists it among the system shutdown messages.

HIGH OIL TEMP is a safety shutdown: the chiller is shut down because the oil temperature has increased to 180°F (82.2°C). The temperature is sensed by thermistor RT3. The system will be allowed to restart when the temperature decreases to 179°F (81.6°C), so the chiller remains shut down until the oil has cooled to that point.

• Oil temperature rose to the 180°F (82.2°C) trip point, sensed by thermistor RT3.
• Improper lubrication brought about by restricted oil lines or oil passages, or by dirty oil filters — the manual names these in connection with a unit shutting down on high oil temperature (HOT).

1. Confirm from the display or the history that HIGH OIL TEMP is the shutdown message, and note the time it occurred.
2. Allow the oil temperature to decrease; the system permits no restart until it has fallen to 179°F (81.6°C).
3. Check the oil lines and oil passages for restriction and the oil filters for dirt, since the manual ties HOT shutdowns to improper lubrication from these restrictions.
4. Once the oil temperature is at or below the restart point, take the restart action described below.

• Safety shutdown trip point: 180°F (82.2°C) oil temperature.
• Restart allowed when the oil temperature decreases to 179°F (81.6°C).
• Sensing device: thermistor RT3.

Restart is a manual step at the panel and is permitted only after the oil temperature has decreased to 179°F (81.6°C). The manual's instruction: To restart the chiller, press COMPRESSOR switch to STOP/RESET position and then to the START position.
