VSD High Instantaneous Current Fault

Code / displayMeaningCauseActionPage
VSD-High Phase X Instantaneous Current
(VSD)
VSD-High Instaneous Current
(MVVSD)
High instantaneous current fault on the variable speed drive; reported per phase (“Phase X”) on VSD units and as a general fault on MVVSD units. Shutdown behaviour changed in software V21: previously a Cycling shutdown. In this version, the fault becomes a Safety shutdown if the same fault (on any phase) occurs 3 times in 90 minutes. The first 2 shutdowns within the 90-minute window remain Cycling shutdowns; if a third occurs within 90 minutes of the first, the third is a Safety shutdown that requires a manual restart. The 90-minute window applies to a High Instantaneous Fault on any phase: three faults on any phase in 90 minutes, or one fault on each of the three phases, results in the 3rd fault becoming a Safety shutdown. 3

Oil Sump Enhancements

Code / displayMeaningCauseActionPage
Oil – Low Temperature Differential Condition that prevents a chiller start. Arises after the chiller has been running at low load conditions for extended periods, when the oil temperature gets too low. Avoided in software V21 on P, Q and H9 compressor chillers: while the compressor is running, the Oil Return Solenoid (1SOL) is now cycled closed (de-energizing K12 relay) when the Oil Sump Temperature < OIL RETURN MIN Setpoint (programmable 80.0ºF to 110.0ºF, default 95.0ºF), and opened (energizing K12 relay) when Oil Sump Temperature > OIL RETURN MIN + 7°F, so the condition no longer prevents a chiller start. During coastdown and startup, solenoid operation is unchanged from standard logic (remains closed). 4
