On the display
The panel prints this safety as High Oil Temperature Cutout, and no other wording of the message is used on this model. The Status display fault message for this safety appears as SYS X YYYYYYYY, where X is the system number. The YYYYYYYY field shows FAULT for a system that will restart when the fault clears, or LOCKOUT for a system that will not restart until the operator clears the fault using the keypad.
What it means
The High Oil Temperature Cutout protects the compressor from insufficient lubrication. When a system's oil temperature rises above 225°F, that system faults and shuts down with a controlled ramped shutdown. The safety also acts before a start: the system is inhibited from starting while its oil temperature is above 175°F.
Setpoints and thresholds
- Shutdown point: a system faults and shuts down with a controlled ramped shutdown when its oil temperature rises above 225°F.
- Start inhibit point: the system is inhibited from starting while its oil temperature is above 175°F.
Reset and restart
Recovery depends on how the message is showing. A system displayed in a FAULT condition will restart when the fault clears. A system displayed in LOCKOUT will not restart until the operator clears the fault using the keypad. On this model the cutout was also modified so that The High Oil Temperature Cutout fault will clear and be disabled when Oil Temp Sensor is Disabled.
Questions engineers ask
What does High Oil Temperature Cutout mean on a YORK YCAV?
It is a system safety that protects the compressor from insufficient lubrication. When the oil temperature rises above 225°F, the system faults and shuts down with a controlled ramped shutdown.
Why won't my YORK YCAV system start after a High Oil Temperature Cutout?
The system is inhibited from starting while its oil temperature is above 175°F. If the display shows LOCKOUT, the system will not restart until the operator clears the fault using the keypad.
How do I clear a High Oil Temperature Cutout on a YORK YCAV?
A system in a FAULT condition restarts when the fault clears, while a LOCKOUT must be cleared by the operator from the keypad. The fault also clears, and the cutout is disabled, when the Oil Temp Sensor is Disabled.
At what oil temperature does the YORK YCAV trip on High Oil Temperature Cutout?
The shutdown trip is at oil temperature above 225°F, with a controlled ramped shutdown. Starting is inhibited while the oil temperature is above 175°F.
